Active Markets: United States
Problem Addressed
In the traditional music industry, compliantly sampling someone else’s song or sound often requires excessive fees and complicated legal processes that must pass through record labels. As the industry has developed, sampling has become less and less accessible for artists with limited budgets.
Project Description
Arpeggi consists of 3 components: Arpeggi Labs as an organization. and their nested projects Kits and Arpeggi Studio. Arpeggi addresses challenges of digital audio licensure and attribution, allowing musicians to share their music for reuse with guaranteed attribution when their sound is used through the use of NFTs and smart contracts. The Arpeggi platform features a community sourced sample library and a full featured Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to mint songs and samples as shareable tokens.
Arpeggi Labs: Web3 tooling for collaboration within the music industry, to facilitate music creators’ access to a library of licensed samples, remix licenses, and tools to support attributions and minting of NFTs that can in turn be used by other artists.
Kits: Kits is a marketplace for music samples and remix licenses, which allows creators to support and connect directly with other artists while receiving royalty-free, commercial-use license for the sounds in the Kit.
Arpeggi Studio: Arpeggi Studio is an in-browser digital audio workstation (DAW). Users can use the creator software or their own DAW, and automatically use on-chain sound libraries, licensing processes, and tools to mint creations as NFTs and credit samples.
When an artist uploads a sound or song to Arpeggi it gets registered in the ARP protocol (the composable on-chain registry for music primitives), publishing an on-chain record of authorship. The artist receives an NFT and the sound is then made available for re-use by other artists with attribution.
Progress to date
Arpeggi secured over $5M in funding during a 2022 seed round led by a16z. The platform does not yet support royalty payments, but is working towards that functionality as they move forward.
Business Model
Revenue model not disclosed. Arpeggi is free to use and covers gas costs for users.
Traction
